Google App Password vs tavaline parool

turvalisusemail

EE

Kui seadistad e-posti saatmist läbi Gmaili SMTP (näiteks oma veebilehe kontaktivormi või meili-kliendi jaoks), kasuta reeglit: ära kasuta oma Gmaili isiklikku parooli, loo pigem Google App Password.

Miks see erinevus on nii kriitiline?

1. Mis on tavaline parool?

Sinu Gmaili põhiparool on võti tervele Google kontole. See annab täieliku kontrolli sinu e-kirjade, Google Drive’i, fotode, dokumentide ja igale teisele Google’i tootele. Kui annad selle parooli mõnele skriptile või veebirakendusele (kasvõi omaenda vormi taustaprogrammile), paned kõik oma andmed ohtu.

2. Mis on App Password?

Google App Password on spetsiaalne, ühekordselt genereeritud 16-märgline kood, mis on mõeldud ainult ühele konkreetsele seadmele või programmile (näiteks sinu meiliserverile).

  • See töötab ainult e-kirjade saatmiseks läbi SMTP.
  • See ei anna ligipääsu sinu Gmaili veebiliidesele ega teistele Google’i teenustele.
  • Sellel puudub seos sinu tegeliku parooliga.

  1. Lülita oma Google’i kontol sisse kaheastmeline autentimine (2FA) (see on App Passwordi loomise eeltingimus).
  2. Mine oma Google’i konto turvaseadetesse ja otsi “App passwords” (rakenduste paroolid). Link
  3. Loo uus parool, anna sellele nimi (näiteks “maandumisleht” või “email”) ja kopeeri 16-märgiline kood. Kasuta seda koodi SMTP seadistustes. app_password_1

ENG

When setting up email sending via Gmail SMTP (for your website contact form or email client), use this rule: never use your personal Gmail password, use a Google App Password instead.

Why is this difference so critical?

1. What is a regular password?

Your main Gmail password is the master key to your digital life. It grants full control over your emails, Google Drive, photos, documents, and your entire Google account. If you give that password to a script or web app (even your own form backend), you expose all your data to risk.

2. What is an App Password?

A Google App Password is a special, uniquely generated 16-character code dedicated to one specific device or program (like your email server).

  • It works only for sending emails via SMTP.
  • It does not grant access to your Gmail web interface or other Google services.
  • It is completely independent of your actual password.

3. Security and control

The best part: if you stop using that app (e.g. you switch servers or take down the landing page), you can revoke the App Password with one click in your Google security settings, without needing to change your master password. Your main password remains untouched and secure.

How to create one

  1. Enable 2-Step Verification (2FA) on your Google account (a mandatory prerequisite).
  2. Go to your Google Account security settings and search for “App passwords”. Direct link
  3. Generate a new password, name it (e.g. “landing page” or “email”), and copy the 16-character code. Use that code in your SMTP settings.
